2008 Annual Report (extract) – our first response
The 2008 Annual Report covered the 18 months from Wings’ company foundation on 12 January 2007 to the end of the first year on 30 June 2008.
We had a very successful first period of operation. It started with the moving of a helicopter across Tanzania and Malawi. And that was so we could support 100,000 vulnerable Mozambican people affected by a flood and the Category Four Cyclone Favio. So, within 2 months of starting we had helped save lives. And we had delivered nearly 5 tonnes of food ourselves. And we assisted in the delivery of a further 29 tonnes. All this was the right urgent food aid and other stores to some of the most needy people in the world.
For we believe in getting the right aid to the right people at the right time.
Since our start, we have become a registered charity (non profit). And we have twice flown in Mozambique using chartered helicopters (see our 2008 video). Also we supported the government during the floods of 2008 and have deployed a full time disaster relief logistician to Mozambique.
Our UK activities are vital to our long term sustainability. Strong foundations have been laid. Manuals have been written, our advice network has been built and we have built solid relations to save lives abroad.
So how are we doing?
We trustees are delighted with the help of our supporters. Our donors have helped us raise over £70,000 in the last 9 months. Donations and voluntary effort are laying the right foundations to operate our own helicopter. Our volunteers have also helped us in many discreet ways. We are so grateful.
We are on course to provide rapid life saving helicopters for some of the world’s most vulnerable people: saving lives, sustaining lives and developing lives. Overall we are thrilled with the help of so many with making this demanding task begin to be a reality.
